The British are not this verbose. In fact British English is a model of succinctness compared with that found in the USA. For example, "A high rate of speed"? Why not just say "fast"?
And another example has just come to me. "Burglarize". Why not just "burgle"? Taken to its extreme a person perpetrating such an act presumably becomes a "burglarisationist", rather than simply a "burglar".
